Houseboat 1002 nights also known as the Floating Taj Mahal is a "Jewel in the crown" when it comes to staying on a Houseboat in Kashmir. This is a masterpiece, designed by renowned German designer.
Construction of this houseboat was completed in 1987, inaugurated by Honourable Tourism Minister of that time Mufti Mohd Syed.
The idea for the making a unique houseboat came into existence on a fishing trip in the mountain range of Kashmir when a butterfly was noticed flying over the fishing team. Mr. H. Rucki (Designer of the houseboat) offered a joint venture in designing one of the best & unique houseboats in Kashmir if the butterfly would land on someone's hand but unfortunately it landed on the right shoulder of Haji Mohd. Sultan Baktoo (owner). And before Mr. Rucki finished his sentence saying "I said hand not the shoulder" the magical moment happened it flew right from the shoulder onto the hand of Mr. Baktoo & started changing its colour in sizzling sun of a hot summer day, the butterfly showed all of sudden a white/blue aura for more than a minute before it took off again. So one more beautiful story was added in the 1001 Arabian nights named as "1002 nights".
1002 Nights Located on eastern banks of Nagin lake, in a peaceful & breath-taking view of the beautiful unlike most Houseboats, 1002 nights has spacious rooms and large bathrooms, beautiful Mughal paintings, paipermachie and wood carving is highlight of this boat.
Unlike Houseboats in Kerala, the houseboats in Srinagar, are stationary. Some of the houseboats there were built in the early 1900s, and are still being rented out to tourists. These houseboats are made of wood, and usually have intricately carved wood paneling. The houseboats are of different sizes, some having up to 05 bedrooms apart from a living and dinning room.
Many tourists are attracted to Srinagar unique experience of staying on a houseboat, with all the conveniences of a luxury hotel.
